I once read of a girl who was so tired of her parents controlling everything she does. She wishes to get out of their lives, and when she wakes up the following morning, she is 17 years older the night before... Yeah, yeah, yeah... fiction huh?
But it really is a major phenomenon in the life of ours, young adults. We actually started feeling autonomous the moment we try to walk on our own. But it's different this time. It's more of sophistication in our ways, and we tend to make it a reason to tell our parents that we can take care of ourselves. Sure you can.
See your mum. You can be 18 or 19 and is of course entitled to your own decisions, but they will ask, "Where has my baby gone?" or like "Oh my god, my baby's growing up!" It's kind of weird sometimes. I was in second elementary grade when I first revealed my first ever fully-fledged crush to my mum and she actually started crying, saying her baby's gonna leave her na daw. Now that's a nice thing to look back to.
Kids will always be kids. Or should I say that kids are of all ages... humm, but of course, every person experienced being a kid for at least a portion of his life, and it would really be nice to have sometime to leave that and just store it on your pensieve.
If you feel your parents pressure you so much or are being overprotective, its up to you to show them that you deserve some trust from them. And you can let that be shown without going out and partying all night and not getting drunk... That's not the trust they require of us as their children. It's on the simplest things we do- at home, at school, the way we respect the elders and a lot more of that.
Be on the right track, guys.
